FPSC Photo Size in KB: Under 30 KB, JPG or JPEG
By Shah Zaib · Published · Updated
In short: FPSC wants a recent passport size photo in JPG or JPEG format, under 30 KB. That is the only file its online application asks you to upload: no CNIC image and no signature. The photo and signature resizer makes a photo that fits in your browser.
These rules come from FPSC's guidelines for online application, dated 9 September 2025 and linked from the FPSC home page. They cover general recruitment, the posts you apply to through "Apply Online". CSS has its own application and advert, so check that advert for its photo rules.
What FPSC asks for
| Rule | What the guidelines say |
|---|---|
| File size | Less than 30 KB |
| Format | JPG or JPEG |
| Photo size | Passport size, with no pixel or centimetre size given |
| Photo | Recent, and not an informal picture |
| Other uploads | None. You prove your details with documents at a later stage |

Make an FPSC photo under 30 KB
- Start from a recent passport size photo: the studio's digital copy, or a clear scan of the print. A phone photo of the print works if you take it flat, in daylight, with no glare.
- Open the photo and signature resizer and pick the FPSC photo preset. It sets 350 x 450 px and a 30 KB limit.
- Drop your photo on the box. Crop to fill trims the edges to the passport shape and keeps your face in the middle.
- Check that the result line shows a size under 30 KB, then press Download photo. The file is always a JPEG, whatever you started from.
Why 350 x 450 px? FPSC says only "passport size" and gives no pixels. A passport-shaped photo of 350 x 450 px stays sharp under 30 KB, where a full phone photo squeezed to the same size would turn blurry.
Is 30 KB counted as 30,000 or 30,720 bytes?
FPSC does not say. A KB can mean 1,000 bytes or 1,024, and Windows shows file sizes in units of 1,024. The resizer keeps the file under 30,000 bytes, so it is under the limit either way. If you made the file somewhere else, the file size converter shows its size in both units.
Why FPSC photos get rejected
- A file just over 30 KB. Your phone may round 30.4 KB down to "30 KB". Aim a little under, as the preset does.
- A PNG, HEIC or screenshot. Saving it again as a JPEG fixes it. Renaming it does not.
- An informal picture. FPSC does not define the word, so play safe: a studio passport photo, not a selfie or a face cut out of a group picture.
- Details that differ from your documents. FPSC checks what you enter against your documents later, and wrong entries get the application rejected. The photo should look like you do today.
Applying to PPSC as well? Its limit is lower, so read the PPSC photo size guide. NTS counts in MB, not KB: see the NTS photo size guide. For any other form, the guide on compressing a photo to 20 KB or 50 KB shows how to get under any KB limit.
