How to calculate your exact age
- Enter your date of birth. The Age at date starts on today.
- For a job advert, change Age at to the date the advert says age is counted on, usually the closing date. The Today button sets it back.
- Read your age in years, months and days. Below it are total months, weeks, days and hours, the weekday you were born on, and the date of your next birthday with how many days are left.
- For an age limit, copy the minimum and maximum age from the advert, plus any relaxation in years. The tool says Eligible, Under age or Over age and shows your exact age on that date. If the form also wants a photo under a KB limit, use Photo & Signature Resizer.
Frequently asked questions
How is exact age calculated?
The tool counts whole months from your birth date to the chosen date, then the days left over. Years are those months divided by 12. If you were born on 31 January, you are a month older on 28 February (29 in a leap year), because a month without a 31st ends on its last day.
How do I check if I am within the age limit for a job?
Set Age at to the date the advert counts age on, often the closing date, then enter the minimum and maximum age and any relaxation you qualify for. With a maximum of 30 you stay eligible up to the day before your 31st birthday, because the tool reads not more than 30 as not yet 31, as most adverts do. Check the advert's own wording to be sure.
How does upper age relaxation work?
Relaxation adds years to the maximum age only. A limit of 28 with 5 years of relaxation lets you apply until the day before you turn 34. Who gets relaxation, and how much, differs from one advert to the next, so enter only what the advert grants you.
What if I was born on 29 February?
In years without a 29 February, the tool treats 28 February as your birthday. Both the years count and the next birthday line follow that rule.
How many days old am I?
Look at the Total days line. It counts calendar days between the two dates, so a clock change for daylight saving cannot throw it off by one. Total hours is that figure times 24, and total weeks counts only full weeks.
