- Copy the English or Urdu wording, or the figures with commas in the right places. To work out the amount first, use Calculator.
Frequently asked questions
How do I write an amount in words on a cheque in Pakistan?
Write Rupees, then the amount in words, then Only, like Rupees One Lakh Twenty Five Thousand Only. Start right at the beginning of the line and draw a line through any space left after Only, so nothing can be added. The figures go in the box, and the two have to match.
Should I use lakh or million?
Both are correct, and banks in Pakistan and India accept either. Lakh and crore is what most people use on cheques and in rupee amounts: 12,50,000 is Twelve Lakh Fifty Thousand. Million is common in business and in English documents: 1,250,000 is One Million Two Hundred Fifty Thousand. Use one style throughout a document.
How are paisa written?
After the rupees, add and, the paisa in words, then Only: Rupees Ten and Fifty Paisa Only. Type the amount with a decimal point, like 10.50. Most cheques today are written in whole rupees.
What comes after crore?
100 crore is one arab (1,00,00,00,000, or one billion), and 100 arab is one kharab (one hundred billion). The tool uses these names in the lakh system, the way amounts are said in Pakistan.
Why do some banks want capital letters?
Capital letters are harder to change by hand, so some banks and accounts offices ask for them. Tick CAPITAL LETTERS and copy the result.
