How to work out your salary tax
- If you enter a monthly salary it is multiplied by 12. The yearly figure is matched to the salaried slab table for the tax year you pick. Tax is the fixed amount for that slab plus the slab rate on the income above the slab's starting point. For tax years 2025 and 2026, if income is above Rs 10 million, a surcharge is added on top of the tax (10% and 9% of the tax). Monthly tax is the yearly tax divided by 12.
- The effective rate is total tax divided by income. The marginal slab is the one your last rupee falls in. To check a slab by hand, use Calculator.
What is not included
This tool treats the amount you enter as taxable salary. It does not take out exempt allowances such as the medical allowance up to 10% of basic pay. It does not deduct Zakat paid, pension or provident fund contributions, or tax credits for donations, pension fund investment or other items. It does not cover rental, business or capital gains income, advance tax paid on bills and banking, or the extra tax on non-filers. For a full return, use FBR's IRIS portal or a tax adviser.

What changed for 2026-27?
The Finance Act 2026 cut the rates on income between Rs 2.2 million and Rs 7 million and split the top band into three slabs: 29% up to Rs 5.6 million, 32% up to Rs 7 million and 35% above. It also removed the 9% surcharge for salaried people. The first three slabs did not change.

Is the rate applied to my whole salary?
No. Each rate only applies to the part of income inside its slab. Moving into a higher slab does not raise the tax on the income below it. The slab table shows the tax on each part.
Do these slabs apply to everyone?
They apply when salary is more than 75% of your taxable income, which is true for most employees. If most of your income comes from business, rent or other sources, the non-salaried rates apply instead and this calculator will understate your tax.

Why is my payslip deduction different?
Your employer may spread tax differently over the year, adjust for bonuses, or account for tax credits and exempt allowances. This calculator assumes the same salary every month for the whole year.
Who pays the freelancer rate instead?
Income from exporting software, IT or IT enabled services, received from abroad through a bank, is taxed under section 154A. If you are registered with PSEB the rate is 0.25% of receipts. Otherwise it is 1%. It counts as your final tax on that income only if you file your return and withholding statements. Salary from a Pakistani employer is not export income.
