How to split a PDF

  1. Drop a PDF on the box or click it to choose one. The page count appears under the Pages field once you pick Extract pages or Split by ranges.
  2. Choose Extract pages to keep some pages in one file, Split by ranges to make one file per range, or Every N pages to cut it into equal parts.
  3. Click Split PDF, then download the PDF, or a ZIP if it made more than one file. To put pages from several PDFs together, use Merge PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. The PDF is split by your browser on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server, so it is safe for bank statements, contracts and transcripts.

How do I take out only a few pages?

Keep Extract pages selected and type the pages you want, like 2, 5-7. They go into one new PDF in the order you type them, so 5, 1 puts page 5 first.

How do I split a PDF into separate files?

Pick Split by ranges and type each part, like 1-3, 4-10, 11-. Every range becomes its own PDF. To get every page as a separate PDF, pick Every N pages and leave it at 1. Several files download together as one ZIP.

Will the text still be selectable?

Yes. Pages are copied as they are, so text, links and quality do not change. The only exception is a PDF that blocks copying: its pages are copied as images at print quality.

Does it work with password-protected PDFs?

A PDF that only blocks printing or copying can be split. A PDF that asks for a password when you open it needs the password removed first. Unlock PDF on this site does that in a few seconds if you know the password.
