How to compress a PDF
- Drop a PDF on the box or click it to choose one.
- Pick Smaller for the biggest saving, then either set a maximum size in KB or choose a quality level. Pick Keep text if you need to select or search the text afterwards.
- Click Compress PDF. The new size and the saving appear when it is done, and Download saves the file. To send only some pages, take them out first with Split PDF.
Frequently asked questions
Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The PDF is opened and compressed by your browser. It never reaches a server, so it is safe for CNIC copies, degrees, transcripts and bank statements.
How do I compress a PDF to 100 KB, 200 KB or 500 KB?
Keep Smaller selected, tick Target max PDF size, and pick 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB, or type the limit from your form. The tool lowers image quality step by step until the file fits. If the limit is too tight for the number of pages, it tells you and gives you the smallest file it could make.
Why can I not select text after compressing?
Smaller mode turns every page into a picture, which is what makes scanned documents shrink so much. If you need selectable text, use Keep text. It re-saves the file without changing the pages, so savings are smaller.
Why did my PDF barely get smaller?
A PDF that is mostly typed text is already small, and Keep text cannot do much with it. Smaller mode helps most with scans and phone photos of documents.
Does it work with protected PDFs?
Smaller mode can read PDFs that only block printing or copying. A PDF that asks for a password when you open it needs the password removed first. Unlock PDF on this site does that in a few seconds if you know the password.
