How many pages fit in 200 KB
We measured it with this tool on a test scan: A4 pages of 12 pt typed text, scanned at 150 DPI, about 400 KB a page, the size a phone or office scanner makes. Every file from 1 to 12 pages came out under 200 KB. To fit, the tool lowers the resolution of each page, so what changes with the page count is how sharp the text stays.
Up to about 4 pages keep the full 150 DPI and look like the original. At 5 or 6 pages they drop to about 120 DPI, still sharp. Around 8 pages they drop to about 96 DPI, which reads easily on screen and on paper. At 10 to 12 pages they fall to about 77 DPI: the words still read, but they look soft and small print or a stamp may blur.
If your file has more pages than that, or fine print that has to stay sharp, send fewer pages: take out blank or extra pages first. Photos and colour scans take more of the 200 KB than grey text, so they reach the limit with fewer pages.
200 KB here means 200,000 bytes. Some upload forms count 1 KB as 1024 bytes and allow 204,800 bytes; a file under 200,000 bytes passes both.
How to compress a PDF to 200 KB
- Drop your PDF on the box or click it to choose one. Target max PDF size is already ticked, with 200 KB picked.
- Click Compress PDF. Each page is turned into an image and its quality goes down only as far as needed to get under 200 KB.
- Check the new size, then click Download. If it says it could not get under 200 KB, take out pages you do not need with Split PDF and try again.
Frequently asked questions
How many pages fit in a 200 KB PDF?
About 4 scanned A4 pages stay fully sharp, about 8 still read easily, and up to about 12 read but look soft. We measured this with this tool on typed A4 scans at 150 DPI; photos and colour pages take more space, so fewer of them fit.
Can I still select the text after compressing to 200 KB?
No. To reach 200 KB every page is saved as an image, so the text can no longer be selected or searched. The Keep text method on the Compress PDF page keeps text selectable, but it only re-saves the file and rarely brings a scan near 200 KB.
Is 200 KB 200,000 or 204,800 bytes?
This tool counts 1 KB as 1000 bytes, so the file is at most 200,000 bytes. That also passes a form that counts 1 KB as 1024 bytes, which allows up to 204,800 bytes.
What if it cannot get the PDF under 200 KB?
It tells you and gives you the smallest file it could make. Remove blank or extra pages, upload the document as two files if the form allows it, or scan it again at 150 DPI in grey instead of colour.
